Ecwid

Ecwid - this is one of the most successful Russian SaaS startups. This year they where among the finalists of "The Next Web Startup Rally 2010" and the similar Russian contest organized by Google " Business Project 2010". At the moment, the service is used by more than 20 thousand merchants worldwide. Ecwid - is a SaaS service for simple online store building. Its developers - "Creative Development" company - is already running the successful business with the popular commercial e-commerce CMS X-Cart. Therefore they know very well that there are already a lot of e-commerce CMS and SaaS solutions on the market. So why did they decide to create yet another one?

The main idea of Ecwid - is that online store can be easily embedded anywhere. Like with YouTube video - you just need to insert a little code to a page and online store appears on it. And it works on this single page without reloading. The store design can be easily customized to fit your existing site (you even can edit CSS if needed). It's very important for those who already have a website and online store should be organically added to it. Typically e-commerce CMS or services are built to be a primary engine for your site, or require a subdomain setup. So, linking them to an existing site - is quite difficult. Ecwid - was originally designed for this purpose.

In addition, Ecwid provides two bonuses. First, it is adapted for mobile shopping - provides a compact HTML-version for smartphones. Second, you can easily insert your shop to your page in a social network (Facebook, MySpace, etc). Actually, you can insert your store to many places and manage them from one account.

Ecwid offers a free version which is limited to 100 items and hasn't some non-critical features. The developers promis that this version will remain free forever. The paid version starts at $17/month.
